Manama: AirAsia X has postponed the start of its Kuala Lumpur-Bahrain-London Gatwick route until March 2027, citing ongoing geopolitical uncertainty in West Asia.
The long-distance low-cost airline had intended to start operating the route on August 27, 2026. However, following a study of the regional operating environment, the airline announced that the launch will be postponed, depending on future operational and market conditions.
Benyamin Ismail, General Manager of AirAsia X, stated that the decision was made with the security and health of passengers and crew as the first priority.
The airline stated that the decision is similar with measures taken by other airlines in the region to limit or suspend operations due to persistent unrest.
Despite the postponement, AirAsia X stated that Bahrain remains an essential part of its long-term network strategy and that it will continue to monitor developments before launching the service when conditions are safe and adequate.
Affected passengers will be contacted individually and offered service recovery options, such as a full refund to the original payment method or a travel credit valid for 730 days.
