Safety
Roads across Muharraq are set for targeted improvements after the Municipal Council approved a series of traffic and infrastructure recommendations during its twelfth ordinary meeting of the sixth municipal term. The decisions, discussed in detail and endorsed by members, focus on easing congestion, enhancing visibility and improving pedestrian protection in several locations.
Among the approved measures is the removal of concrete barriers along Road 105 in Al Sayah. Residents have long raised concerns that the barriers restrict traffic flow and create unnecessary bottlenecks, particularly during peak hours. Their removal is expected to restore smoother circulation and reduce daily frustration for motorists.
Development
The council also backed the development of Road 24 in Samaheej, a move seen as essential to supporting the area’s residential expansion. Improved road conditions are expected to enhance accessibility and reduce vehicle wear, particularly in densely populated neighbourhoods.
The council reviewed progress updates regarding the installation of lighting columns along Road 607 in Muharraq. Adequate street lighting remains a priority for both safety and community wellbeing, especially in areas that experience heavy evening traffic.
Crossing
One of the most closely watched discussions centred on traffic safety along Sheikh Salman Avenue in Block 209. The council endorsed recommendations concerning either replacing the existing roundabout with traffic signals or establishing a dedicated pedestrian bridge. The aim is to reduce risk and provide safer crossing options for residents.
The approved proposals reflect a broader municipal direction focused on practical solutions. For many residents, safer roads are a daily necessity. The council’s decisions now move from discussion to implementation, with expectations that tangible improvements will soon be visible on the ground.
