The mechanisms governing the collection and management of value added tax revenues are set to be examined during the Council of Representatives’ eighteenth ordinary Session, scheduled for Tuesday, as MPs focus on fiscal administration and revenue oversight.
The issue will be raised through a parliamentary question submitted by MP Abdulwahid Qarata, who seeks clarification on the policies and operational frameworks adopted by the Ministry of Finance and National Economy, in coordination with the National Bureau for Revenue, for administering and collecting VAT revenues.
The discussion is expected to centre on coordination between the Ministry of Finance and National Economy, which oversees fiscal policy, and the National Bureau for Revenue, the authority responsible for tax administration and compliance.
MPs are likely to assess whether existing systems ensure efficiency, transparency and consistency in VAT collection, while also examining enforcement measures, compliance monitoring and the handling of disputes related to tax assessments.
VAT has become a key component of public revenue in Bahrain, making its administration a recurring subject of parliamentary interest. The matter is being discussed alongside other financial and economic issues scheduled for the same sitting, reinforcing the role of parliamentary oversight in safeguarding sound fiscal governance.
During Tuesday’s Session, the minister’s response is expected to outline current VAT collection policies and clarify any measures being taken to strengthen revenue management and administrative performance.
