Manama: A tragic early-morning traffic accident on Monday claimed the life of a young woman and left another passenger injured, after a driver in his twenties lost control of his vehicle while driving under the influence of alcohol, according to court records.
The incident occurred at approximately 5:34 am, when the defendant was driving with friends at a speed exceeding the legal limit by 30%. Case details indicate that the driver, who was under the influence of alcohol, changed lanes without sufficient caution, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the median.
The car came to a stop on the opposite side of the road, while a female passenger was ejected from the vehicle onto the street, where she later died. Another passenger sustained minor injuries, and the vehicle suffered damage.
During his appearance before the First High Criminal Court, the defendant admitted to the charges brought against him, while denying the specific charge of speeding.
The Public Prosecution has charged the defendant with causing a traffic accident that resulted in one death and injuries to another person due to driving under the influence of alcohol, exceeding the speed limit, reckless driving and losing control of the vehicle. He is also accused of causing damage to public property.
The court has scheduled the next hearing for February 1, and the defendant remains in custody pending trial.
