Bahrain and Cyprus Align on Peace, Security, and Trade
New embassy reflects bilateral opportunities across sectors.
High-level state visit strengthens foundations for trade, education
“Bahrain and Cyprus are aligned on the same goals, from supporting a two-state solution for lasting peace to prioritizing security, trade protection, and education,” said Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs. He highlighted the potential for deeper cooperation as Bahrain and Cyprus currently hold the presidencies of the GCC and the EU Council, respectively, emphasizing the importance of nurturing genuine friendship and partnerships between the two nations.
Dr. Alzayani made the remarks during the official inauguration of the new Cypriot Embassy premises in Manama as a part of the state visit of President Nikos Christodoulides. The event was also attended by Dr. Constantinos Kombos, Cyprus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs, and other dignitaries.
“The establishment of this embassy will strengthen our bilateral partnerships and open new opportunities for collaboration across various sectors,” Dr. Alzayani added. He reflected on his recent visit to Nicosia, noting the strong shared values, perspectives, and warm hospitality he experienced, reinforcing the solid foundation of Bahrain-Cyprus relations.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Andreas Eliades, Cyprus’ Ambassador to Bahrain, highlighted the historical and strategic ties between the two island nations. He noted that the signing of multiple agreements during recent high-level meetings between leaders of the two countries pushes to a new era of cooperation across defense and security, culture and education, trade and investment, tourism, and maritime collaboration.
Ambassador Eliades also recognized the contributions of Cypriot professionals to Bahrain’s development over the years, praising the enduring people-to-people connections and cultural exchanges between the countries.
“The opening of our resident embassy reflects a shared commitment to a forward-looking partnership that will enhance diplomatic, economic, educational, and cultural relations, benefiting both Cypriot and Bahraini citizens,” the ambassador said.
