Northern Council Calls for Pavement Adjustment Near Al Khan Mosque

The Northern Area Municipal Council has called for urgent engineering adjustments to pavements near Ahmed bin Hassan Al Khan Mosque in Salman City to address anticipated parking needs ahead of the mosque’s opening.

The issue was discussed during the council’s tenth ordinary meeting of the sixth municipal term, fourth session, following a request submitted by Municipal Council member Mohammed Saad Al Doseri, representative of the Third Constituency.

Al Doseri urged swift action to lower the pavements surrounding the mosque to enable their use as parking spaces for worshippers. He said the measure would help ease access, prevent traffic congestion, and avoid random parking once the mosque becomes operational.

According to a memorandum presented to the council, the proposal involves reducing the height of pavements adjacent to the mosque site to maximise the use of available space without the need for major construction works. The memorandum noted that the matter had been formally raised with the Ministry of Works in September 2025, but no response had been received, prompting its escalation under matters arising.

The council was informed that the mosque is expected to open in the near future, which is likely to significantly increase parking demand in the area. Members warned that without proper arrangements, the shortage of parking could lead to road obstructions and inconvenience for nearby residents.

Council members agreed that lowering the pavements would be a practical and immediate solution to manage parking and maintain smooth traffic flow.

Decision

Following deliberations, the council agreed to submit a formal request to expedite the lowering of the pavements near the mosque. Members stressed the need for timely implementation to ensure orderly access for worshippers and preserve traffic safety in the surrounding area.
