Northern Council Seeks Urgent Action on Public Seating in Salman City

The Northern Area Municipal Council approved raising a formal recommendation during its tenth ordinary meeting of the sixth municipal term, fourth session, calling for urgent action to provide concrete seating in Salman City, Block 581.

The move followed a memorandum submitted by council member Mohammed Saad Al Dosari, representative of the Third Constituency, who urged swift intervention to address a service gap affecting residents and visitors who regularly use public open spaces in the area.

According to the memorandum, previous proposals aimed at developing the same sites have been submitted in the past but remain unimplemented. These included plans for a rubberised walking track, public facilities, and broader service improvements along the Salman City waterfront. Despite the recognised importance of these locations and the high number of families who frequent them, no progress has been recorded to date.

Need

Al Dosari told the council that the absence of basic amenities has become increasingly noticeable, particularly during peak usage periods. He stressed that providing concrete seating represents a practical and immediate solution that responds directly to public needs, while more comprehensive development projects remain pending.

Council members agreed that the request reflects genuine community demand and addresses a basic requirement for comfort and accessibility in public spaces. They noted that simple service interventions can have a significant impact on quality of life and encourage greater use of shared recreational areas.

Decision

Following discussion, the council approved submitting a recommendation to Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, calling for the expedited provision of concrete seating in the area. Members stressed that the request carries urgency and should be treated as a priority service matter.

The council reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing incremental improvements that directly benefit citizens, while continuing to press for the implementation of wider development projects that have remained delayed.
