Diplomatic Team Prepares for Bahrain’s 2026-2027 Security Council Membership

His Excellency Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met today at the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York with members of the diplomatic team participating in Bahrain’s bid for non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council for 2026-2027. The meeting was attended by Ambassador Jamal Fares Al-Ruwaihi, Bahrain’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Khalid Yousif Al-Jalahma, Undersecretary for Political Affairs, and members of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs delegation participating in the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.

During the meeting, Minister Al Zayani expressed his pleasure in meeting the diplomatic team, congratulating them on their selection for this important diplomatic role during Bahrain’s Security Council membership. He highlighted that their work will help achieve the Kingdom’s objectives in line with the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the priorities of the government led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, emphasizing the high importance placed on Bahrain’s Security Council membership.

The Minister noted that the diplomatic team’s work at the Security Council represents a valuable opportunity to showcase Bahrain’s standing on the international stage and its diplomatic approach, guided by the King’s vision of peace, tolerance, coexistence, and human solidarity, grounded in balance, moderation, cooperation, and Bahrain’s traditional values.

Al Zayani stressed the importance of developing their skills, gaining new expertise, understanding the Council’s procedures and political discussions, and acquiring specialized experience to contribute effectively to final decisions on international issues addressed in Council sessions. He emphasized the need for active participation, teamwork, and collaborative spirit in representing Bahrain.

The Minister also highlighted the critical role of the Security Council in maintaining international peace and security, noting that political work in the Council requires skill, precision, coordination, and building bridges of cooperation with member states’ delegations. He wished the team success in fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted to them.
