10-Year Jail Term for Drug Offender, Fined BD10,000, Faces Deportation
The High Criminal Court of Appeal has upheld a 10-year prison sentence for an Asian man convicted of trafficking marijuana. The court also ordered him to pay a BD10,000 fine and ruled that he be deported after serving his sentence.
According to case records, security authorities received intelligence indicating that the defendant was arranging and participating in drug sales. Investigators confirmed the information through a confidential source, who arranged to purchase marijuana worth BD150 in Salmabad.
Arrest and Investigation
The operation, conducted under police surveillance, led to the defendant’s arrest. Authorities found him in possession of the marked money, and a search of his residence uncovered additional quantities of marijuana.
During questioning, the defendant admitted working with another individual who directed pickup locations and instructed him on handling proceeds from the sales in exchange for a commission. He confessed to completing three previous transactions before being apprehended during a fourth attempt.
The Public Prosecution charged him with selling and possessing marijuana for trafficking, as well as possessing it for personal use without authorization.
Based on the evidence, the court confirmed the conviction, the 10-year prison term, the BD10,000 fine, confiscation of the drugs, and the deportation order.
