HH Shaikh Nasser Launches Asry’s Record-Breaking Solar Energy Project
His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs and Chairman of the Board of Bapco Energies, affirmed that the “Asry” solar energy project embodies the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa for Bahrain’s progress and prosperity. He emphasized that the initiative reflects His Majesty’s directives to build a sustainable and innovative future, noting that it also demonstrates the continuous support of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Deputy Supreme Commander and Prime Minister, for pioneering initiatives in environmental innovation and the transition to clean energy.
His Highness made these remarks during the launch of the solar energy project by the Arab Shipbuilding & Repair Yard Company (Asry), in collaboration with Cano Clean Max Renewable Energy, the largest of its kind globally in the shipbuilding and repair sector. The ceremony was attended by several ministers and senior officials.
Highlighting the strategic importance of the project, His Highness Shaikh Nasser noted that it reinforces Bahrain’s position among the world’s leading countries in applying advanced renewable energy technologies. It also reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to creating a sustainable work environment that encourages innovation and strengthens the green economy.
Expressing pride in the project, His Highness said it underscores the ability of national institutions to adopt innovative ideas and transform them into practical initiatives that contribute to resource sustainability and environmental protection, ensuring a brighter future for coming generations.
For his part, Ayman Al-Muayyad, Chairman of Asry, described the project as both an environmental and strategic investment, reflecting Asry’s commitment to supporting national efforts to achieve net-zero carbon emissions and enhance energy efficiency. He emphasized that the initiative demonstrates the company’s vision of combining its leadership in industrial marine services with green innovation, enhancing its role as a responsible and leading company in both environmental and economic terms, while contributing to Bahrain’s global standing and sustainable development.
Dr. Ahmed Al-Abri, CEO of Asry, added: “We at Asry believe that environmental responsibility is an integral part of our corporate strategy. Accordingly, we are committed to launching practical initiatives that support Bahrain’s green transformation journey.”
Dr. Al-Abri further explained that the solar power station will have a total capacity of 22.5 megawatts in its first phase and 22 megawatts in the second. The energy produced in phase one is expected to exceed 36 million kilowatt-hours annually, increasing to over 71 million kilowatt-hours per year after phase two. The project is projected to generate annual financial savings of over $2 million upon completion, in addition to enhancing energy efficiency and reducing operational costs.
Ali Abdullah Kano, Chairman of Kano Industrial & Energy Company, said the partnership with Asry reflects strong confidence in Cano Clean Max’s capabilities in renewable energy. “This project is a landmark initiative demonstrating our commitment to developing advanced solar solutions that help industries reduce emissions and rely on clean energy. It also supports Bahrain’s vision for sustainability and its environmental and economic goals, reflecting our role as a responsible national partner in sustainable development,” he added.
Coldeep Jain, Chairman and Managing Director of Clean Max, said: “We are delighted to collaborate with Asry on this solar project. We are proud to bring our expertise to Bahrain by providing impactful solar solutions that empower industries to lead in sustainability, reduce carbon emissions, and actively contribute to the Kingdom’s vision for clean energy transition.”
Cano Clean Max Renewable Energy is a joint venture between Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo Group and Clean Max Solar MENA FZCO, wholly owned by Clean Max Enviro Energy Solutions Ltd.
The project strengthens Asry’s position as a leading maritime hub in the region and as a national institution contributing to a more sustainable future for coming generations, aligning with Bahrain’s aspirations for a sustainable green economy.
