The High Criminal Court has opened the first manslaughter trial since a decree-law reassigned such cases from the Lower Criminal Courts.
A Bahraini driver stands accused of causing a motorcyclist’s death in a traffic crash through lack of care.
Pleadings
The court set 14 September for review, reply and pleadings.
The Public Prosecution says the defendant, by his fault, caused the rider’s death in a collision he triggered.
It also charges him with damaging others’ property by driving without the required care and attention, and with failing to leave a safe gap to the vehicle ahead.
He denied the charge during the investigation and repeated that denial before the court yesterday.
According to the file, the rider was on his motorcycle on the morning in question when the defendant, inattentive and too close, struck him.
The impact threw the rider into the air and he fell to the ground near the hard shoulder, where he died at the scene.
