A Bahraini manager accused of dodging BD65,000 in VAT over a three-year stretch will face judgment on 30 September.

Prosecutors say the man, who runs a sole proprietorship, failed to settle tax dues between 2020 and 2023.

He had filed 11 tax returns before stopping payments altogether, according to the National Bureau for Revenue.

Payments

A revenue enforcement officer told investigators that the firm ducked payments totalling BD65,102.068.

The head of the tax section said the amounts remained unpaid long after the legal deadline.

The case was passed from Collections to Legal Affairs for action.

Letter

The bureau later issued a letter requesting that criminal proceedings be opened.

Attached to it was a VAT certificate confirming the firm was registered and liable for tax.

The total sum listed as unpaid stood at just over BD 65,000.

Charge

In questioning, the defendant admitted the charge.

He said he had used the money to pay workers during the Covid outbreak.

The Public Prosecution charged him with full VAT evasion for taxable services, noting the delay stretched 120 days beyond the permitted period.
