Bahrain’s construction and investment sectors are experiencing strong and steady growth, according to Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture.

The minister shared that the government is continuously working on improving the process of issuing building permits, helping to drive real estate and investment development across the Kingdom. Data from the national building permit platform Benayat reflects this positive momentum.

In the first half of 2025 alone, Bahrain issued 4,299 building permits — a 31.5% increase compared to the same period in 2024. The total area licensed for construction reached 1.74 million square meters, marking a 57.9% jump year-on-year. These numbers highlight the Kingdom’s supportive environment for development and the government’s ongoing efforts to simplify procedures.

Al Mubarak praised the role of Benayat in speeding up approvals and improving service quality. He noted that Bahrain’s flexibility, economic diversity, and investor-friendly policies continue to attract developers and real estate investors.

New services have recently been added to the Benayat system to further streamline the process. These include permits for renovations, fencing, land merging and separation, land use changes, and both land and marine reclamation, as well as amendments to new building permits.

The minister confirmed that this progress aligns with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030, which emphasizes private sector involvement and creating a business-friendly climate. The Benayat platform — developed in coordination with the Information and eGovernment Authority — acts as a one-stop shop for engineers, investors, and the public to submit, track, and pay for building applications online.

He added, “The ministry, under the guidance of the Ministerial Committee for Development Projects and Infrastructure, remains committed to enhancing Benayat to offer efficient and high-quality municipal services.”

The platform integrates with Bahrain’s National Geographic Information System, giving access to over 300 data layers from more than 30 government and private entities. This allows for faster procedures, better planning, and stronger coordination between agencies to meet the goals of sustainable development.
