The Royal Charity Organization (RCO) Bahrain-Nepal Support Committee flagged off the second shipment of aid to the Nepalese people affected by the earth quake yesterday.

The shipment, which contains 25 tons of food, 6000 litres of bottled water, 1000 plastic carpets, 300 waterproof tents, 1000 blankets and 30 electricity generators, will go by sea. Earlier, just six days after the first earthquake in Nepal on April 25, RCO Secretary General Dr. Mustafa Al Sayed headed a team of 10 Bahraini volunteers and flew to Nepal with 30 tons of aid in the form of medicines, tents, blankets and dry rations.

“This second consignment marks the shift to a new phase in our support efforts. As the public knows, the rescue efforts are now over and Nepal is preparing for the monsoons and winter ahead. The top priority is shelter and we have included waterproof tents, blankets and plastic carpets to protect people who are still living outdoors. We are also sending electricity generators, water treatment mobile plants and dry rations to help assure people of core needs.” Dr. Al Sayed said.

“The Kingdom of Bahrain has donated over 50 tons of food aid and supplies such as tents, blankets and plastic carpets as well as medicines in a very short time. Besides this stellar RCO effort, the Bahrain Red Crescent Society too has been coordinating donation drives of food, clothing and medicines,” he said, “In addition, we have collected over BD 10,000 for Nepal which shall be spent in reconstruction of housing, hospitals and schools once the dust settles and Nepalese authorities give us the go ahead to help them in their work.” he said.

Present at the brief meeting to flag off the consignment were RCO Secretary-General Dr. Mustafa Al Sayed, RCO representatives, members of the RCO Bahrain-Nepal Support Committee and some of the fund-raisers such as Australian brothers Karan and Kyle Nair who set up SeismicSupport, a social media drive to garner support (over 2 tons of food and clothing and the 6000 water bottles from Coke as well as cash), the Rotary Club of Adliya which sponsored many tents and helped to get dry rations as well as the ILA and Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam.
