A man has been sentenced to life in prison for killing a co-worker with a brick inside their shared accommodation.
The High Criminal Court also ordered his permanent deportation from Bahrain after the sentence is served and confiscated the weapon used in the attack.
The defendant, of Asian nationality, did not attend the hearing.
The court proceeded in his absence under Article 201(1) of the Criminal Procedure Law.
Attack
According to the Public Prosecution, the defendant struck his colleague several times with a concrete block during a planned attack.
The victim had been kneeling in prayer when he was approached from behind and hit repeatedly on the head and face.
One of the residents said he had been resting nearby when he heard a loud cry.
He opened his eyes to see the victim on the ground and the accused standing over him, delivering further blows.
Witness
The witness said he was threatened when he tried to intervene and was forced to watch.
Other workers entered the room shortly afterwards.
One of them managed to take the brick from the accused, who then sat down among them without speaking. Police and ambulance crews arrived soon after.
The employer was notified by one of his staff. He arrived to find the victim on the floor, badly injured and unresponsive.
The suspect remained seated nearby.
Blows
A forensic report confirmed that death was caused by a series of blows to the head.
The brick used was recovered at the scene.
The Prosecution conducted a site inspection, interviewed witnesses, questioned the accused, and ordered a forensic examination.
The case was then referred to trial.
The court found the killing to be premeditated.
The evidence showed that the defendant had waited for a quiet moment, approached without warning, and struck with intent to kill.
