Fruitful year for Bahrain Works Ministry
Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry has successfully completed several key projects during the past 12 months. The Ministry said in a press statement that it had implemented projects in the fields of sanitary, roads, buildings and other infrastructural projects in all four governorates of the Kingdom of Bahrain in 2015.
Muharraq Circular Road Project, Phase-I
The BD5-million project is considered as one of the main projects that the Ministry is currently implementing.
It’s being financed by the Saudi Development Fund. It begins from the entrance of Galali Amwaj Islands entrance and ends at the entrance of Diyar Al Muharraq, passing through the villages of Samaheej and Al Dair.
The 8.4km one-lane road expands to three lanes to reduce the existing heavy traffic congestions. The road’s importance comes as it reduces pressure on Raya Avenue, which is parallel to new road, and connects the villages of Galali, Samaheej and Al Dair.
Intersection on Khalifa bin Salman Highway connecting Roundabouts 18 and 13 in Hamad Town
The BD7,446,958-project was funded by the Saudi Development Fund. It consists of a two-direction bridge with the length of 280 metres and width of 24.2 metres. The 1.5 km bridge connects roundabouts 18 and 13 in Hamad Town and is considered as the third entrance to Hamad Town and the surrounding villages from Khalifa bin Salman Highway. It’s expected to reduce the traffic congestions in the area.
Juffair Ring Road, Phase-I
The total cost of the project is slightly more than BD2m and the first stage is nearly completed, connecting the three-lane road near Al Fateh Junction, Shaikh Duaij Avenue to Al Najma Club in the east.
The road’s length is measured to be 4.5km and provides multiple entries to Juffair area.
The project is expected to reduce traffic congestions in Juffair area, especially during rush hours, and rehabilitate the land to attract foreign investments.
Roads maintenance and development projects
The Ministry has completed maintenance works and developing 683 roads across Bahrain. These projects include the expansion of Awal Avenue in Juffair with a total cost of BD759,339, developing Avenue 23 in Tubli with a cost of BD539,104, developing Abdulrahman Al Dakhil Avenue in Manama (Block 321) with a total cost of BD288, 034, creating a new entry to blocks 1214 and 1215 in Hamad Town with a cost of BD196, 953, reconstructing Shaikh Ahmed bin Salman Avenue in Riffa (Block 905) with a cost of BD1.59m and establishing new parking spaces at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) to accommodate 950 additional vehicles in a 200, 000 square-metre space.
The Ministry also mentioned that it had implemented several developmental and rehabilitating road projects that include repaving dirt roads, installing traffic signals and establishing car parking spaces in areas like Janabiya, Budaiya, Muharraq, Tubli, Hamad Town, Riffa and Aali.
Traffic safety and traffic engineering projects
The Works Ministry revealed that a modern traffic signals lights and technologies had been introduced in 2015. It stated that 115 traffic signals were provided by high definition LED lights.
The Ministry also introduced the “Scout” traffic signals’ system, which allows the lanes with the highest density to pass first, aiming to reduce traffic congestions during rush hours.
Sanitary
In the sanitary field, the Ministry had implemented key projects. It mentioned the establishment of Al Hamala Sewage Treatment Plant with the cost of BD1,757,525. The plant is to serve 644 housing units and reused the treated water in agricultural activities. The Ministry also said it had completed the second phase of upgrading Tubli Sewage Treatment Plant, using the HYBACS system with a total cost of BD8m.
As for sewage networks, several projects were completed in Qurayya, East Riffa, Shahrakkan, Karranah, Dar Kulaib, Hamala, Sitra, Budiaya and Seef District.
Buildings
The completion of the BD2.8m Princess Sabeeka Social Centre Project in Riffa, BD381,127 Archives Building project in Khalifa bin Salman Port in Hidd, BD2.7m Youth Houses Building at Isa Sports City, BD2m Shura Council Building and other
official authorities’ buildings and projects were completed by the Ministry this year.
