Shura delegation attends NATO PA
A delegation from the Shura Council participated in the opening of the first session of NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATO PA), held here in the presence of the President of the Italian Senate.
The delegation comprised Chairman of the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee Khalid Hussain Al Maskati and Member in Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee Khalid Mohammed Jabr Al Musallem.
Al Musallem highlighted the role of the media and international bodies and organisations in rejecting the traded Islamic image of Daesh, saying the all the Islamic countries condemn the terrorist and criminal act of Daesh.
Al Musallem added that Islam is a peaceful religion that calls for tolerance, peaceful co-existence and protection of civilians.
Italian Minister of Interior Angelino Alfano pointed out that Daesh has several sources to finance its activities and military action is not enough to defeat it.
“Preventive, intelligence action as well as intellectual and cultural confrontation are needed to defeat ISIS so as not to mix it with Islam,” he said.
He added the NATO should put an international strategy for this global challenge through launching a partnership with Arab and Muslim countries, especially in the Middle East to disseminate moderate Islam in order to fight financial terrorism.
