Mesmerising Soorya India Festival today

The Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam is organising Soorya India Festival, a classical dance programme, today at 8pm.

Famous dancers from India, including Sreelatha Vinod (Bharatanatyam), Rajendra Gangani (Kathak exponent from Delhi) and Rahul Acharya, Sonali Mohapatra and Gayatri Ranbir (Odissi trio from Bangalore) will present scintillating performance at the festival.

Sreelatha Vinod, a senior disciple of gurus Shantha and V.P. Dhananjayan, is a growing dancer with an innate grace. She is pairing with Venkatakrishnan, also a senior disciple and faculty at Bharata Kalanjali. Rajendra Gangani is a renowned Kathak dancer trained in the Jaipur Gharana, notable for his innovative style. For his outstanding contribution to Kathak, Gangani received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2003 from the late President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam.

Rahul Acharya, a student of Guru Shri Durga Charan Ranbir, started studying Odissi dance at the age of 4, attracted by a strong passion for the profoundly religious experience of traditional dance in Jagannatha’s culture. He has also studied Hatha and Raja Yoga at the Satyananda Yoga Vidyalaya, Bihar School of Yoga.

Sonali Mohapatra is an incomparable Odissi dancer.

At an early age of 5, she lost a major portion of her hearing, but developed herself as an Odissi dancer with a strong determination.

Gayatri Ranbir, a graceful and profound Odissi dancer, is a disciple of her father Guru Durga Charan. She has performed in several stages in India and abroad.
