Indian School crowned champions

Manama : The Indian School was crowned overall champions of the Fifth School Mini Olympics, which came to a close yesterday.

Totalling medals (18 gold, 17 silver 18 bronze), the Indian School topped the medal tally ahead of second-placers St. Christopher’s School, who could take 45 medals (17, 16, 12), while Al Noor International School came third with 35 medals (17, 8, 10) at the end of this exciting two-week sports gathering.

The concluding day action saw St. Chris Lightening capture the gold medal of the three-team hockey championship, which was open for under-11 players, after a 4-0 win over St. Chris Leaves with goals from Yasmin, Emily, Noha and Isabel. Shaikha Hessa School was the other school taking part.

On the concluding day of athletics, St. Christopher’s School was again in top form as they captured 9 medals, including 3gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze in the secondary stage, while 7 medal (3 gold, 3 silver, 1 bronze) were won in the intermediate stage.

Students from various schools from around Bahrain competed in a variety of contests at the Khalifa Sports City Sodium in Isa Town.

The School Mini Olympics, meanwhile, came to a close at the Bahrain Volleyball Association yesterday (Thursday).

The fifth edition of the School Mini Olympics saw over 3,500 students from 58 government and private schools competing in a record 20 sports.

Speaking at the ceremony, Bahrain Olympic Committee general secretary Abdulrahman Askar said the fifth edition of the School Mini Olympics was by far the most remarkable edition as records were broken in terms of the number of featured sports and participants.

He congratulated the winners in all sports championships this year, and expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Education for its cooperation with the Bahrain Olympic Committee in bringing this event for the fifth successive time.

The ceremony concluded with the organisers blowing out the School Mini Olympics torch flame amid big round of applause from the cheerful attendees at the hall. 

The Mini Olympics is organized for the fifth successive year by the Bahrain Olympic Committee in cooperation with the Ministry of Education.
