Chung storms into semi-finals

Melbourne : Unseeded Korean Hyeon Chung charged into the Australian Open semi-finals after dismissing Tennys Sandgren with a straight-sets 6-4 7-6(5) 6-3 victory yesterday.

The conqueror of Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev proved too strong for Sandgren, winning the encounter after two hours and 28 minutes on the Rod Laver Arena.

An evacuation warning brought a minor delay to the quarter-final encounter, with the duo getting under way five minutes later than scheduled once it had proved to be a false alarm, and the supporters had returned to their seats.

And alarm bells were soon ringing for Sandgren in the opening set, with the American dropping serve in the third game as Chung converted his second break-point opportunity. Sandgren threatened to break back immediately, but Chung dug deep to save two break points before squandering three of his own in the following game.
