Health Minister visits domestic violence victim

Manama : Health Minister Faeqa Al Saleh on Thursday visited the domestic violence victim who was brutally beaten up by her ex-husband last week and was hospitalised at Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC).

The minister met Syrian national Zahra Subhi, 35, and was reassured about her condition and treatment by the medical team monitoring her.

Al Saleh has instructed the team to provide best medical care and services to Subhi. She also reassured the victim that the ministry is keen on providing the best services to patients to ensure their safety.

The visit came on the Hijri New Year holiday, a day after a local daily claimed that Subhi was asked by SMC administration to leave the hospital.

The minister also visited a number of wards in SMC, greeted them on the occasion of the new year, was reassured on their conditions and wished them speedy recovery.

DT News reported on Thursday that the authorities in the Kingdom, including the Public Prosecution, the National Institution for Human Rights and Health Ministry denied the report and confirmed that Subhi remains in the hospital, despite that her condition allows her to be discharged.

The horrific domestic violence case became the talk of the town after she appeared in a video in a terrible shape narrating  how her ex-husband and father of her five children brutally attacked her on September 12.

She claimed in the video that the man continually assaulted her and insisted that the last attack was an attempt to murder her so he can marry another woman.

Few hours after the video message went viral on local and regional social media networks as one of the worst domestic violence cases to be reported in years, police announced that the man was arrested and referred to the Public Prosecution, which interrogated him and detained him, pending further investigations.
