Smell of cow dung angers residents

ManamaThe stench emanating from cow dung and urine have made life miserable for local residents in Manama.

The reason: a cow tied to the front of a restaurant in the residential area here for the past one week.

They say the foul smell has intensified as the restaurant owner has been feeding the cow regularly while failing to clean the area even after requesting repeatedly.

Residents allege that the piled up cow dung and other wastes have made the area unhygienic even to walk around.

The culprit, according to residents of block number 302, road number 213, in Manama, is the owner of Aaz Habib, a Bangladeshi restaurant.

“The entire area is now smelling terrible and has become unhygienic even to move around,” one of the residents told DT News.

“We have our cars parked in the area

“More than that we are worried about the safety of our kids, as the whole area has become extremely unhygienic,” they complained.

Meanwhile, another resident pointed out that the cow is tied next to gas cylinders, which do not even have protective valves.

“This is a complete violation of the safety rules, putting the life of road users at great risk,” the resident said adding, “We request the officials to take immediate action”.

When contacted, Mazen Ahmad Al-Omran, the Vice Chairman of Capital Municipal Council, told DT News, “This is an absolute violation in many ways.”

“Firstly, no restaurant owners in Bahrain are allowed to keep any kind of animals outside their restaurant and moreover, there are specific places allowed in the Kingdom to keep animals whether it for domestic or for slaughter purposes.

“I will immediately inform the officers in the Capital Municipal Council to look into this matter and fix it immediately”.

However, the restaurant owner, when approached by DT News, refused to comment.
