Workshop assembling used surgical tools shut

ManamaThe National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA) and Industry, Commerce and Tourism Ministry have shut down a workshop assembling used surgical tools imported from a neighbouring country to distribute in the Kingdom.

The workshop was operating in the backyard of a villa to illegally manufacture surgical tools for the local market, according to NHRA.

“The tools were made in the workshop using construction materials so it could be distributed in the local markets,” NHRA explained.

“NHRA coordinated with Industry, Commerce and Tourism Ministry to visit the workshop, which has been operating without a permit from the ministry. All the tools and equipment detected at the workshop were confiscated,” the statement added.

Engineering Safety Consultant at the Authority Nada Al Sayigh confirmed that the workshop is not qualified to manufacture and maintain medical tools in accordance to international standards.
