200 illegal workers nabbed in Capital

ManamaAround 200 illegal workers were nabbed in the Capital in the first three months of this year, it was announced yesterday.

Majority of the workers nabbed were illegal street vendors wandering the streets of Manama.

This was announced yesterday by Engineering and Investment Services Director at the Capital Governorate Jameel Al Rowai’ee.

The official confirmed that the governorate conducted ten field visits in different sites in the capital during the first quarter of 2017.

“As a result of the visits, 192 illegal workers were caught and 460 street vending points were cleared,” Al Roawai’ee stated.

He explained that the operations were done in coordination with the Capital General Secretariat, Capital Governorate, Labour Market Regulatory Authority and the Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs.

“Legal action was taken against violators. These procedures come to curb unwanted phenomena such as illegal vending. They were implemented to serve of citizens and residents in the Capital, and to protect their interests,” the official said in a statement issued here yesterday.

“Illegal employment has many negative and sometimes dangerous effects on the society. They harm public health and the civilised atmosphere in the capital by committing unwanted practices alien to the Bahraini society,” the official added, confirming that the Capital Governorate will spare no effort to combat unwanted and illegal practices.
