Bahrain to host fourth edition IMMAF World Amateur Championship

ManamaThe fourth edition of the World Championships of Amateur MMA will be held in Bahrain in November at Khalifa Sports City in Isa Town, it was announced.

Bahrain edition also makes the event’s  first appearance in an Arabian country after the City of Las Vegas holding the first three edition of the championship. 

International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) will organise the event in cooperation with the Bahrain Mixed Martial Arts Association. 

The announcement was made during a Press Conference held on Monday evening at Sofitel Hotel in Zallaq under the patronage of HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, Honourary President of the Bahrain Mixed Martial Arts Association (BMMAA), Founder of Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Mixed Martial Arts Organization (KHK MMA). 

Announcing the decision officially, IMMAF Board President, Densign White also bestowed Shaikh Khalid with Honourary IMMAF Membership.  Col. Khalid Abdulaziz Al Khayat was inducted into IMMAF board as a member.

The conference was attended by Hisham Al Jowder, Minister of Youth and Sports Affairs, Colonel Abdul Hakeem Al Shino, President of the Conseil International du Sport Militaire (CISM), Abdulrahman Askar, Assistant Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and Secretary General of the Bahrain Olympic Committee. 

“The hosting is clear confirmation of the efforts of HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of Bahrain Olympic Committee in translating the vision of the wise leadership to attract World Championships to Bahrain,” said Shaikh Khalid. 

Shaikh Khalid also said that the move is part of plans to continue the development of the Youth and Sports Sector in the Kingdom, and to turn Bahrain into a global sports destination through establishing more international championships, especially in MMA. 

IMMAF delegation including Kerrith Brown, IMMAF CEO, Wissam bin Abi Nader, IMMAF Board Member, Col. Khalid Abdulaziz Al Khayat, Interior’s Ministry Public Security Sports Association President and President of the Bahrain Mixed Martial Arts Association, and several other guests and  officials were also present at the Press Conference.
