RCSI Bahrain and RBH agree nursing collaboration

The Royal College of Surgeons Ireland – Medical University of Bahrain (RCSI Bahrain) and the Royal Bahrain Hospital (RBH) have agreed to collaborate and engage their expertise on nursing education. The agreement will involve the allocation of RCSI Bahrain undergraduate nursing students to RBH, in accordance with a contract developed through Tamkeen. The hospital will also facilitate registered nurses to undertake the BSc Nursing Bridging Programme and Masters in Nursing.

The collaboration was announced recently at RBH premises by RCSI Bahrain Head of School of Nursing and Midwifery, Professor Seamus Cowman, and RBH Chief Medical Officer, Dr Stephen Angamuthu and Chief Operating Officer, Rohit Srivastava. Following the launch, an education module was imparted to over 35 nurses, and similar other modules are being coordinated and planned for the future.

Professor Cowman welcomed the education partnership between the two institutions and the potential contribution to nursing developments at the hospital. He said ‘this partnership with a private hospital and Tamkeen, signals a new direction and plans are in progress for collaboration with other private hospitals.’

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Angamuthu of RBH opined: “Bahrain’s healthcare sector is expanding rapidly and the demand for professionals is expected to increase in the near future. Thus, the RBH-RCSI Bahrain collaboration will open high quality education programmes to nurses, which will enhance the quality of services at the hospital.

This is a first agreement of its kind between the two parties and is a reflection of the university’s commitment to expanding its network of partner hospitals both locally and internationally.

RCSI Bahrain is a constituent university of RSCI, which was established in 1784. Like its Irish counterpart, RCSI Bahrain is a not-for-profit health sciences institution focused on education and research to drive positive change in all areas of human health worldwide.
