Schumacher Jnr picks up more Formula 4 points

Berlin: Mick Schumacher, the 17-year-old son of stricken Formula One legend Michael Schumacher, picked up more points in German Formula 4 over the weekend to stay second in the drivers' championship.

Schumacher Jnr finished fourth, second and fourth in the three races on Saturday and Sunday around the Sachsenring circuit near Chemnitz to leave him second on 91 points behind Australia's 20-year-old Joey Mawson, who has 126 points, after six races.

Schumacher, who had tasted victory last time out at the Oschersleben circuit in April, was annoyed to finish second in Sunday morning's race having started in pole position, but could not hold off an attack from eventual winner Mike Ortmann.

"Of course, it's clear I wanted to defend my pole and win the race, so, of course, I am a little disappointed with this second place finish," said Schumacher.

"I made a mistake (when Ortmann attacked) and I wasn't able to compensate for the error."

Schumacher is racing in both the German and Italian competitions in 2016 and will be chasing more points in Germany's Formula 4 at the next set of races on the Lausitzring ring, near Berlin, at the start of June.

His success behind the wheel comes as his father, seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, continues his rehabilitation at home from head injuries suffered in a skiing accident in December 2013.
