Bahrain cafeteria staff accuse ex-employer of harassment

Manama :  cafeteria employee from Budaiya filed a police case against his former employer alleging that he had beaten up and harassed him.

Mohammed Faisal, who works in a cafeteria in Budaiya, claimed in his complaint that his former employer assaulted him and confiscated his passport. Speaking to DT News yesterday, Faisal said that the employer also spread rumours about him that harmed his reputation.

“He claimed that I stole money from the business. He demanded that I pay him BD2,000. When I denied, he interrogated me with the help of another man. They threatened me and harassed me for a few weeks,” he said.

“One day he came to my apartment along with his friends. They asked me to admit that I had stolen money. I replied that I would not take the blame for something that I did not do. Then they became furious and threatened me. They also hit me until I fell down. To avoid getting beaten up again, I confessed that I had stolen the money. Then they asked me to pay them BD2,000. He confiscated my CPR card and passport,” Faisal explained.

“After this incident I just wanted to quit the job. As per the advice of the Indian Embassy, I filed a complaint at the police station. Now I no longer work there and I hope I can get a new passport and CPR card soon,” he added.
