Labour Ministry encourages youth to take upon more artisanal jobs

Minister of Labour and Social Development Jameel Humaidan yesterday inaugurated the “Business Opportunity” project launched by Youth Pioneer Society in the presence of Honorary President of the Association Jamal Bu Hassan along with a number of members of the Shura Council, the House of Representatives, officials from the Labour and Social Development sectors.

This project aims at contributing to the change of societal attitudes towards professional and artisanal work to encourage work in the private sector by providing suitable jobs for the youth through community-based cooperation between the relevant government authorities, particularly the Ministry of Labour and Social Development, Tamkeen with companies, youth associations and professional workshops.

The idea of the initiative also involves the society assembling to train young people to create their own projects after passing the training programme scheduled and improve their basic skills in work, entrepreneurship and help them prepare a feasibility study for their projects.

During his speech, Humaidan said that the professional and artisanal works had important societal values, noting the importance of focusing on the development of young job seekers to be productive in the critical areas required by the labour market.

The Minister also stressed on the importance of supporting and guiding young professionals starting from intermediate and secondary and encourage them to go to work in the arts and crafts area, which offers promising jobs and good wages.

He also mentioned that employment reached the sufficiency stage in many areas but there were promising jobs in the craft and artistic professions.

For example, 35 per cent of work permits issued to expatriate workers are for construction sector.

The Minister said that the employment growth in the private sector per year is up to 6pc and 8pc, which means that it’s very important for young people heading to work to invest in the most promising opportunities.
