Schools shut down as Saudi shivers in snow

Saudi Arabia's Northern Border Province has witnessed moderate snowfall in rural areas near Arar city and Hazm Al Jalameed on Tuesday due a cold wave gripping the region.

 Owing to the situation authorities have suspended classes in all schools on Thursday. There are chances of more snowfall, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Wednesday.

 The Saudi Red Crescent Society called on residents to take precautions including driving a safe speeds to avoid skidding. It has also urged the public to keep warm, especially children and old people.

 Temperatures are expected to drop to sub-zero levels; the Presidency of Meteorology and the Environment (PME) said there is the possibility of snowfall on the highlands in Haql governorate accompanied by a severe cold wave.

 The Civil Defense in Tabuk Province has deployed patrol teams to provide assistance to the public in snowfall-affected areas, according to the Saudi Gazette.

 Inclement weather conditions have resulted in suspension of classes in schools in the Northern Border Province by the Education Administration.
