Three jailed for life for attempted murders, bombings

The Chief of Anti-terror Crime Prosecution, Advocate General Ahmed Al Hammadi, said the first High Criminal Court today sentenced three convicts to life in jail term on charges of the attempted murder of policemen, attempted bombings, and the possession and manufacturing of explosives for terrorist purposes.

The case details date back to December 29, 2014 when the suspects placed an explosive device in the Dair area, gathered near the location to lure policemen and detonated it upon the policemen’s arrival.

However, one of the policemen noticed the device, allowing them to avoid it and subsequently defused it.

The Public Prosecution charged the suspects based on their confessions, eyewitness’ testimonies and technical evidence. All suspects were referred, two of them in custody, to the first High Criminal Court. An arrest warrant was issued to arrest the fugitive.

The court heard the case during its sessions in the presence of defence lawyers. The suspects were provided with all legal sureties to defend themselves and to express their defence arguments.
