Used-books collection campaign to save trees

ManamaA used books collection campaign initiated by Index Bahrain will be launched next week.

The campaign will collect used textbooks of all CBSE syllabus and distribute it later on. The collection campaign is planned for March 10–20.

“The campaign will be similar to last year’s, it intends to support underprivileged students as well as to increase awareness about re-using books to be environmentally friendly. One should remember that to make a set of books, a tree is needed. When the students use used textbooks, they are protecting the environment,” Index Bahrain’s Rafeeq Abdulla said.

He said that a number of collection zones will be chosen where students can submit their used textbooks.

“It was done last year in association with Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam and all major expatriate clubs and associations also engaged in the campaign. Along with used textbooks, we managed to give free notebooks and stationery items last year to the needy students. Also, we have given uniforms to several needy students as part of this campaign last year,” he said.
