Manama Central Market AC system to be operational soon

ManamaThe long-awaited air-conditioning system at Manama Central market will be operated in the next few days, it was announced yesterday.

This came during a visit made by Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Essam Khalaf to the market yesterday.

In the visit, the minister was briefed by Capital General Secretariat (Municipality) General Director Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa on the latest achievements of the development project of the market, as per the directives of the Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa.

The minister said in a statement issued following the visit that the project cost was BD770,000. He explained that the lighting systems at the market was replaced by LED systems, which will reduce energy consumption by 10-15 percent.

Minister Khalaf clarified further, “The project has been implemented in two stages. First, the retail and local production market, which is located on an area of 7, 000 square metres and will operate by the middle of the current month with the cost of BD320, 000. The first stage includes 26 air conditioners and technical work covering the eight main gates of the market. The second stage includes the wholesale market, which is also located on an area of 7,000 square meters.”

The minister directed the Capital General Secretariat to speed up the project to serve the vendors and customers of the vital market.
