45 projects vie for Best Voluntary Work Award

ManamaThe High Organising Committee of the HH Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa’s Award for Voluntary Work has announced that registration for the Best Voluntary Work Project in Bahrain is now closed, noting that the number of participants has increased threefold compared to the first edition as it received 45 projects from individuals and associations.

Best Bahraini Voluntary Work Project Award Committee Chairman, Yaqoob Bu Hazza, said that the massive participation in this year’s edition reflects the increasing interest in voluntary work in Bahrain, especially among youth, adding that one of the major positive aspects in the participating projects is the use of technology and social media network to promote voluntary initiatives.

Jury member, Dr. Faleh Al-Ruwaili, highlighted the importance of the award in honouring voluntary work, and shedding light on collective efforts aimed at delivering support and assistance to the community, based on individual initiatives.

He added that the number of participating projects in the third edition has tripled compared to the first in which there were only 14 participants, which, he said, proves that the award has begun to take root in the Bahraini society.

He said that projects have covered many sectors  such as taking care of public places, supporting people with special needs, first aid, rescue and emergency fields, campaigns against negative practices, career expos, electronic volunteerism, among many others.

Commenting on the Arab League’s embracing of the award, he described the move as a quantum leap made the leap, and a recognition of the Arab community of its positive and constructive impact on Arab citizens, especially amid the on-going situation.

The HH Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa Award for Voluntary Work is granted to the best three voluntary work projects in Bahrain, with the first winning $4000, the second $3000 and the third $2000.

The winners will be honoured on the sidelines of the seventh edition of the HH Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa’s Award for Voluntary Work, organised by the Good Word Society in cooperation with the Arab Federation for Voluntary Work, between September 12 and 14, marking the Arab Voluntary Work Day 2017.
