Four arrested in Buri pipeline blast

ManamaSecurity authorities have arrested four members of the ‘February 14 Coalition’, a terror group involved in the oil pipeline explosion that took place near Buri village, in Northern Governorate  on November 10, 2017, the Interior Ministry said yesterday.

The arrested are: Fadhel Mohammed Jaffar Ali, 23, a driver; Anwar Abdulaziz Musa Jaffar Mushaima, 24, a private-sector employee; Mohammed Abdullah Isa Abdullah Mahroos, 27, a company employee already sentenced to 15 years in jail; and Adel Ahmed Ali Ahmed Saleh, 23, another company employee. The arrest was made as part of the counter-terrorism operations and to maintain national security, said the Interior Ministry.

Search is continuing to arrest others involved in financing, planning and implementation of the crime, the Interior Ministry said. They are: Habib Abdullateef Mahdi, 19, a fugitive sentenced to life imprisonment; Abdullah Jaffar Ahmed Al Madani, 34, a fugitive living in Iran; and Mohammed Ali Ibrahim Khalil, 35, a fugitive living in Iran.

The oil pipeline explosion took place on November 10, causing a major fire near Buri, opposite to Souq Waqif Area and Hamad Town in the Northern Governorate.  The terror attack targeted the supreme interests of the nation and the people’s safety. The blast was brought under control by the Civil Defence Force in cooperation and coordination with the Interior Ministry and the Oil Ministry.

The investigation revealed that two of those arrested had received intensive training in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard camps with the help of fugitive terrorists living in Iran.

“The terrorists in Bahrain are recruited and their travelling to Iran are covered under the excuse of expenses for religious visits. They are trained in bomb-making, using Kalashnikovs and PKCs as well as rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs). They are also assigned to carry out attacks to harm the Kingdom’s economy and its oil pipeline,” the Interior Ministry said.

The investigation has revealed the physical and digital evidence of the suspects’ involvement in financing, preparing and executing terror crimes in different areas, which were foiled by their arrest, the statement said.

The Public Prosecutor’s investigation will reveal further details in this regard, the statement said.
