Houthi missile destroyed over Riyadh
Riyadh : Saudi Arabia yesterday intercepted and destroyed a Houthi ballistic missile northeast of the capital Riyadh, state media reported.
“The missile was of limited size (and) no injuries or damage” were reported, state news channel Al Ekhbariya said.
“Saudi air defense intercepts ballistic missile northeast of Riyadh,” Saudi state TV said.
Amateur video showed four anti-ballistic missiles being fired in the air followed by 5 loud bangs. Loud bangs were heard at 20:45.
Al Arabiya News channel confirmed the shooting down of the Houthi missile.
The missile was destroyed near Riyadh’s King Khaled international airport, which was functioning normally, it added.
Yemen’s Iran-backed Huthi rebels claimed they had fired the missile, targeting the airport, the Huthis’ Al-Masirah television said. Houthis launched a Burkan 2-H missile towards Riyadh late yesterday, a Scud-type missile with a range of more than 800km, it said.
