Cairo: Egypt national football team coach Hossam Hassan has described Palestinian suffering as ‘a shame on the world,’ urging the international community to take significant action to end Gaza's humanitarian disaster.
Speaking ahead of Egypt's forthcoming international games, Hassan stated that the prolonged war has caused enormous human suffering and stressed that the world should not remain silent in the face of the calamity. He described the images coming from Gaza as terrible, adding that innocent civilians, particularly women and children, were paying the heaviest price.
Hassan added that sport should unite people beyond politics and expressed hope that peace and stability would return to the region soon. He believes that players and public celebrities have a responsibility to speak out on humanitarian concerns when lives are at stake.
The Egyptian coach's comments come amid growing worldwide concern about Gaza's humanitarian condition, with relief groups warning of deteriorating food, water, and medical supply shortages as the battle continues. His remarks have sparked considerable coverage in Arab media, adding to calls from regional leaders for a quick end to the carnage.
