Trump Calls Current US Support for NATO 'Ridiculous'

Wahington: US President Donald Trump called the current level of American contribution for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) ‘ridiculous’ saying that the US bears an unfair part of the alliance's defence burden.
In a conversation with reporters, Trump stated that unless other NATO members make greater contributions to their own defence, Washington should stop offering the same degree of assistance. He reaffirmed his firm belief that European allies must raise military spending and bear more responsibility for the alliance's collective security.
Trump insisted that although he is in support of NATO, member countries should bear an equal share of the organization's financial and defence costs. His words come amid renewed discussions over security spending and the future role of the United States within the transatlantic alliance.
NATO partners, many of whom have raised defence spending in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine and ongoing security issues in Europe, are certain to react to the remarks.
