NEW DELHI: Meta and Indian conglomerate Reliance Industries announced a deal to build Meta's first AI-enabled data center in India. Located in the Jamnagar district of Gujarat, the strategic facility aims to expand the US tech giant’s digital footprint and global infrastructure.

The project comes amid an aggressive race among global technology corporations to rapidly expand computing capacity and support generative artificial intelligence services within India's booming digital economy.

Under the terms of the undisclosed financial agreement, Reliance will develop and deliver a 168-megawatt data center within two years. Meta will then lease capacity at the finished facility to meet its immense processing demands.

The facility deepens Meta's long-term investment in India's economy, which currently boasts over a billion internet users. The project joins a wave of massive investments by international giants like Google, Amazon, and AirTrunk, which are expanding local operations to meet rising regional cloud demand.
