Zürich: FIFA has officially canceled 2026 World Cup match tickets that were mistakenly distributed to approximately 60 fans for $0 due to a technical glitch on its official website.

The ticketing checkout error, which occurred during a sales window on May 21, allowed buyers to secure valid seating confirmations at no charge.

Upon discovering the system malfunction, football's international governing body immediately voided the unpaid transactions to preserve pricing integrity.

However, instead of releasing the seats back to the public, FIFA is temporarily holding the affected ticket reservations for a seven-day grace period. Impacted fans must pay the correct, full-rate ticket prices within this strict one-week deadline or permanently lose their spots.

This high-profile operational failure adds intense political pressure on the tournament's organizers, arriving amid active ticket-pricing investigations led by the state attorneys general's offices of New York and New Jersey.
