LONDON: Professor James Moriarty, the legendary arch-nemesis of Sherlock Holmes, is stepping into the spotlight as the main protagonist of an upcoming contemporary television crime drama.

Fremantle and independent production company Archery Pictures have teamed up to co-develop and co-produce the series, titled Moriarty, which is written by Chris Cornwell and Oliver Lansley.

The show reinvents the classic antagonist as a respected Professor of Criminal Psychology at Durham University who secretly masterminds the most sophisticated criminal network in Northern England.

The narrative shifts when a rival criminal faction launches a violent assault on his underground empire. Forced to act, Moriarty joins the police force as an external consultant, weaponizing the law to systematically dismantle his enemies while hiding his illicit activities from the authorities. However, his greatest threat quickly becomes his partner, Detective Imogen Burrows, whose sharp and growing suspicions threaten to unravel his secret identity.
