India, Saudi FM attend Cyprus talks on Middle East

India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud participated in the Foreign Affairs Council held in its informal “Gymnich” format in Cyprus.

The high-level discussions brought ministers together to examine the evolving geopolitical situation in the Middle East and explore ways to improve coordination in responding to regional crises.

A key focus of the meeting was maritime security, particularly safeguarding freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy corridor widely regarded as being in a fragile balance between escalation and stability.

Ministers reportedly stressed the importance of maintaining open sea routes and avoiding further deterioration of security conditions in the region, given the wider implications for global trade and energy supplies.

The talks reflect ongoing international efforts to align diplomatic approaches amid heightened tensions across the Middle East and surrounding maritime routes.
