India’s premier technology industry body, Nasscom, has voiced serious concerns over the abrupt implementation of a new $100,000 fee for H-1B visas for high-tech professionals in the United States.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Nasscom said the one-day notice period for the new policy, set to take effect on Sunday following an announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump, had created “considerable uncertainty for businesses, professionals, and students across the world.”

The association emphasized that policy shifts of such magnitude should be rolled out with “adequate transition periods,” enabling organizations and individuals to prepare accordingly and avoid major disruptions.

The H-1B visa program has long been a critical channel for Indian IT professionals working in the U.S., and industry experts warn that the sharp increase in fees could have far-reaching implications for the sector.
