Ukraine Endures Massive Overnight Attack by Russia; Civilians Among Casualties
Ukraine faced a large-scale assault by Russian forces overnight, with the enemy launching 40 missiles, including cruise and ballistic types, alongside approximately 580 drones of various kinds. Ukrainian officials praised the country’s military personnel, particularly F-16 pilots, for successfully defending the skies and neutralizing a significant portion of the cruise missile threat.
The strikes targeted multiple regions, including Dnipro, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv, Zaporizhzhia, Poltava, Kyiv, Odesa, Sumy, and Kharkiv. According to authorities, residential areas, civilian infrastructure, and industrial enterprises were hit. In Dnipro, a missile carrying cluster munitions struck an apartment building directly, causing destruction and casualties.
Preliminary reports indicate dozens of people were injured, and three civilians were killed. Ukrainian officials expressed condolences to the families of the deceased.
Authorities condemned the attacks as deliberate acts of terror against civilians rather than military operations. Ukrainian leadership emphasized the importance of an international response, calling for strengthened air defenses, increased weapons support, and expanded sanctions on Russia and its financing sectors. Officials stressed that every restriction on Russia contributes to saving lives.
Ukraine reaffirmed its capacity to defend its territory and contribute to European security, urging global partners to act collectively to ensure a reliable defense.
