GCC Nations Urge Calm as US-Iran Tensions Escalate After Airstrikes

Gulf nations are calling for calm and preparing for possible fallout after U.S. airstrikes targeted Iran’s nuclear facilities late Saturday night, triggering alarm across the region.
The strikes, ordered by President Donald Trump, hit three major Iranian nuclear sites. Trump warned that Iran would face even more powerful attacks unless it agreed to peace. In response, Iran has threatened to target U.S. military bases and interests across the Middle East, many of which are located in Gulf countries.
Bahrain and Kuwait Step Up Precautions
In Bahrain, which hosts a key U.S. naval base, authorities urged residents to avoid main roads on Sunday as a precaution. Meanwhile, Kuwait activated emergency shelters within its government complex, anticipating possible spillover from the conflict.
UAE Calls for Immediate Halt to Escalation
The United Arab Emirates expressed “deep concern” over the growing tensions. In a statement, the UAE Foreign Ministry warned that further escalation could push the region into “new levels of instability.” It called for an immediate halt to hostilities and urged all sides to avoid actions that could worsen the situation.
Saudi Arabia Appeals for Restraint and Diplomacy
Saudi Arabia joined the chorus of regional voices calling for restraint. The Kingdom’s Foreign Ministry stressed the need for de-escalation and urged the international community to step in diplomatically.
“The region cannot afford another devastating conflict,” the statement said, underscoring Saudi Arabia’s concerns as the Israel-Iran standoff intensifies.
Oman Condemns US Strikes
Oman, known for its role as a mediator in past U.S.-Iran nuclear talks, strongly condemned the American airstrikes. In a statement published by the official Oman News Agency, the Sultanate denounced the attack and voiced its deep concern over the rising tensions.
Qatar Warns of Catastrophic Consequences
Qatar, home to the largest U.S. military base in the region, issued a strong warning about the potential repercussions of continued escalation. The Qatari Foreign Ministry called on all parties to act with wisdom and restraint, warning that the situation could spiral into “catastrophic consequences” for the region and beyond.
