Bahrain star Falah clinches National Day bowling title

Bahrain national bowling team star Yousef Falah was crowned overall champion of the Bahrain Bowling Association (BBA) and Zain National Day Open Tournament, which came to a close at Awali Bowling Club (ABC). Falah clinched the title after topping the final round, where he faced the Saudi Arabian pair of Zeyad Al Khellwi and Bander Al Yaba over two games.

Falah took down 256 pins in the first game and followed it up with a 235 score, bringing his total to 491 for a 245.5 average. Al Khellwi finished as the runner-up with a 438 total and 219.0 average from games of 190 and 248, while Al Yaba followed in third place after playing 233 and 197 for a 430 total and 215.0 average.

In the previous stage, the top three needed to defeat their opposition over three games to earn the chance to battle for the title. Falah narrowly overcame a tough challenge from Ahmed Fareed, winning by just three pins, 729-726.

Falah had scores of 258, 238 and 233 in his three games for a 243.0 average, while Fareed played 247, 212 and 267 for a 242.0 mark. Meanwhile, Zeyad Al Khellwi defeated Abdulrahman Al Khellwi 596-586. Zeyad had games of 203, 189 and 204 pins for an average of 198.7, while Abdulrahman played 213, 180 and 193 games for a 195.3 average.

In the other head-to-head, Al Yaba beat Ali Al Rashdi of the UAE 697-689. It was another tight battle with Al Yaba scoring games of 258, 278 and 161 for a 232.3 average, while Al Rashid posted scores of 236, 258 and 195 for a 229.7 mark. Prior to this round in the semi-final stage, nine bowlers vied for places in the top six.

They were divided into three groups of three contenders, and the top two after three games marched on. Zeyad and Al Yaba beat Bahrain’s Ali Al Mass, Falah and Fareed overcame Emerson Gotencio from the Philippines, and Al Rashdi and Abdulrahman outplayed Kamal Falamban, also from Saudi.

The top nine made it past a hotly contested second round which featured 18 bowlers in all. They played over six games. Those who did not make it through and finished 10th through 18th, respectively, were Sultan Al Masri from Saudi, Bahrainis Abdulla Abdulkarim, Ahmed Al Khaja, Ahmed Al Goud, Mohammed Al Ansari and Zeyad Al Awadhi, Saudis M.S. and Adel Al Barqi, and Humaid Falah from the UAE.

Following the top three final, the winners were awarded their prizes in a ceremony attended by BBA, Zain Bahrain and ABC officials. The women’s category winners have also presented their prizes, led by champion Nadia Al Awadhi, runner-up Reem Sultan and third-placer Noora Sultan.
