First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa has hailed the success of Bahrain Sports Day 2021.

The annual event, in its fifth edition, was celebrated on Tuesday by ministries, government agencies, institutions and private sector companies.

The success of Bahrain Sports Day was achieved through events, activities, positive interaction between the public and private sector institutions, citizens and residents, as well as through adherence to health guidelines and precautionary measures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, HH Shaikh Khalid said.

Due to the exceptional pandemic conditions, the events this year were held virtually to ensure the highest levels of safety.

"The Kingdom of Bahrain celebrated the Bahrain Sports Day in a civilized manner and with full commitment to the precautionary measures in support of the national efforts led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in addressing the pandemic," HH Shaikh Khalid said.

"We were counting on the awareness of citizens and residents, which was evident after we issued our directives to celebrate this year's edition remotely because we believed in the importance of marking this national occasion and raising awareness of the importance of sport in the community."

HH Shaikh Khalid lauded the efforts exerted by BOC and the organizing committee and praised the sports programs broadcast by Bahrain Television with the participation of leading sports and arts figures in the Kingdom.

HH Shaikh Khalid also thanked all sports associations, sponsors, ministries, and public and private agencies and institutions and lauded their sense of creativity in leveraging technology to mark the occasion virtually.

There was a laudable commitment to celebrating Bahrain Sports Day that reflected a genuine interest in the event and great awareness of the importance of sport in promoting physical and psychological health, HH Shaikh Khalid said.

The commitment demonstrates the event's positive impact on making sport a way of life and on building a healthy society, he added.
