Star-Studded Fight Week Opens for Royal Rumble IV
Fight week for Royal Rumble IV kicks off tomorrow with a free-for-all meet-and-greet dinner at 10pm at Oliveto in Adliya. Fans will have the chance to see some of boxing’s biggest names up close. Amir Khan, Lawrence Okolie, and Rocky Fielding will headline the event, which also features dinner and a Q&A session.
Tomorrow, the spotlight shifts to the official weigh-in at the Euro Motors Boutique in The Avenues Bahrain. Fighters from Bahrain’s Royal Guard and the UK Armed Forces will step on the scales, with live commentary from DAZN pundits and former world champions Darren Barker and Barry Jones. The weigh-in will also feature a performance singer by Amal Al Anbary.
Thursday will see the main event at Crowne Plaza Bahrain, as the Royal Guard faces the UK Armed Forces in the fourth edition of the charity fight night, supporting the Royal Humanitarian Foundation, which raised BD60,000 from last year’s event.
Bahrain’s Royal Guard boxers enter the week on the back of a solid performance at September’s International Boxing Night in Catterick Garrison, England. Competing against fighters from the British Army, six of Bahrain’s top boxers took to the ring, winning two bouts in a tightly contested night of action. Private Mohamed Mehdi Sahak and Private Israel Okafor were the kingdom’s victorious fighters, while Lance Corporal Prakash Limbu, Sergeant Maryam Khamis, Private Abdullah Alabdullah, and Private Isaac Augustine put in spirited efforts despite defeats.
Bahrain national boxing coach Tony Davis, who led the Royal Guard delegation alongside national team coach Fethi Missaoui, reflected on the team’s steady progress.
“Three years ago, we were soundly beaten,” Davis said. “To see how far we’ve come, to the point where we’re pushing them close in almost every fight, shows just how much Bahrain has developed. For a small island, we’re producing genuinely competitive, high-quality boxers.”
Davis, who previously managed the British Army team, acknowledged the professional edge of the UK fighters. “They’ve got full-time programmes, strength and conditioning coaches, nutritionists—the works,” he said. “To be able to go toe-to-toe with that kind of infrastructure speaks volumes about our lads.”
Despite training limitations this year due to balancing multiple commitments, the Geordie coach expressed confidence in his squad. “Maybe we weren’t able to train as intensively as in previous years, but I’m proud of every one of them,” he said.
Looking ahead to Thursday’s card, Davis anticipates a tough night but remains optimistic. “We’re in the deep end again against the UK Armed Forces, but it’ll be a fantastic event, no doubt about that,” he said.
With five world champions attending and Bahrain’s fighters aiming to showcase their growth, Royal Rumble IV promises high-level competition and plenty of action, starting with tonight’s opening events.
