Club captain Steve Newall secured his first victory in competition on Friday, delivering a composed performance in ideal weather conditions that produced strong scoring across the field.
Newall opened with a solid front nine featuring two birdies, three bogeys and four pars, maintaining his momentum into the back nine. After a bogey on the 13th hole, he struck a precise tee shot on the par-3 14th, leaving himself a short putt that he converted for birdie. But during the walk to the 15th tee, he realised he was on track for one of his best rounds, a moment of awareness that disrupted his rhythm and resulted in a double bogey.
The final three holes became a test of composure, yet Newall recovered well enough to finish with 40 Stableford points, securing the day’s top honour. Prizes were presented by TD Balbir Singh and Newall himself.
Behind him, Daniel Guillaume took second place with 38 points, his first podium finish. Sanjeev Bhalla followed in third with 37 points, while Abdulrahman Abdulwahed Al Shaikh claimed fourth after topping a group of players tied on 36 points. They were followed by Abdul Elah Fakhroo, Nick Davis and Lee McIlear.
The next event on the schedule is the Banz Fourball, set to take place next week.
