China’s dominance continues as new records fall in Bahrain

The Asian Youth Games Bahrain 2025 delivered another day of standout performances, as young athletes competed across athletics, court sports, and combat disciplines.
China extended its dominance in athletics, led by Wang Yiru, who shattered the Games record in the girls’ hammer throw with 68.59 m, followed by teammate Gao Yujia (63.08 m). Kazakhstan’s Veronika Yelissayeva claimed bronze at 46.94 m. On the boys’ side, Yuan Lei soared 7.51 m in the long jump, setting another Games record.
Track events kept the momentum high. Wu Mingwei clocked 52.72 s in the boys’ 400 m hurdles, while Lin Qiao-ling of Chinese Taipei won the girls’ race in 1:00.31 s. In the sprints, China’s Chen Xinxuan narrowly beat UAE’s Arwa Ashar in the 200 m, and the Philippines’ Pi Durden Wangkay claimed the boys’ 200 m in 21.76 s.
Court Kings
At Umm Alhassam Hall B, 3x3 basketball heated up. Iran’s girls stayed perfect, defeating the UAE 21–3 and Chinese Taipei 11–9, while China and Kazakhstan also impressed. The boys’ bracket saw Jordan edge UAE 20–19, and Qatar top their group with a 21–7 win over Palestine.
Hosts Show Heart in Volleyball Clash
Inside Exhibition World Hall 2, Bahrain’s boys’ volleyball team pushed Chinese Taipei to five sets before narrowly falling 2–3 (18–25, 25–13, 13–25, 25–13, 15–25). Taipei converted 49% of spikes to Bahrain’s 42%, yet the home side’s aggressive play and crowd-fueled energy earned applause throughout the nearly two-hour contest.
Beach Volleyball Finals
At Sama Bay, China’s Zhuang Ming and Fan Yuhan outplayed Malaysia 21–15, 21–8, while Thailand’s Khampila Natthawiw and Hanmon Butsaba beat Kazakhstan 21–14, 21–19. In the boys’ draw, Thailand defeated China 2–0, and Kazakhstan edged Indonesia in three sets to reach gold medal matches.
Knockout Performances
The competitive intensity carried over to the combat and futsal arenas. Bahrain’s Abdulrahman Almudhahki excited the home crowd in the 60 kg boxing division, defeating Malaysia’s Chian Phanitharn 4–1. Wins for India, Kazakhstan, and Japan highlighted the depth of the field. Meanwhile in Futsal, Hong Kong’s girls edged Bahrain 3–2, while Afghanistan’s boys routed the hosts 7–0. Thailand narrowly beat Kyrgyzstan 5–4, tightening the group play.
Precision on the Greens
Momentum also shifted to the golf course, where precision and composure defined the action. Vietnam’s Nguyen Tuan Anh fired a 66 (–6) to claim boys’ golf gold, ahead of Indonesia’s Jayawardana Dornan and China’s Han Jin. In the girls’ event, China swept the podium, with Cui Jinghan’s 62 (–10) earning gold and Ren Yijia silver. As the Games approach their final stretch, Bahrain’s athletes continue to match the region’s best, while China’s sensational form keeps them well ahead on the medal table.
